Electrical Power & Protection Engineer (Freelance / Project-Based)

Project Scope: Low-Voltage Switchgear & Motor Control Center (MCC) Retrofit

Role Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Freelance Electrical Power & Protection Engineer for an industrial brownfield modernization project. The consultant will oversee the engineering, installation coordination, parameterization, and testing of retrofitted motor protection systems, power monitors, and circuit breakers inside low-voltage switchgear and MCC lineups utilizing Allen-Bradley / Rockwell Automation components.

Key Responsibilities

· Supervise and execute the physical and electrical retrofit of components within LV switchgear and MCC enclosures.

· Wire, configure, and parameterize modern Allen-Bradley electronic motor protection relays, external current transformers (CTs), and related sensor modules.

· Upgrade power quality meters, overseeing instrument wiring, transducer connections, and required panel door cutout adaptations.

· Oversee replacement and sizing verification for motor protection circuit breakers and molded-case circuit breakers (MCCBs), ensuring busbar alignment and mechanical fit.

· Calculate protection coordination parameters, perform secondary injection testing, insulation resistance checks, and verify interlock logic.

· Mark up, revise, and verify electrical schematics, single-line diagrams (SLDs), and as-built drawings.

Qualifications & Requirements

· Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Power & Machines / Electrical Power & Control).

· 4+ years of practical experience in LV switchgear manufacturing, revamping, or MCC retrofit projects.

· Mandatory Technical Experience: Strong, verifiable expertise in Allen-Bradley / Rockwell Automation power and protection equipment (electronic overload systems, power monitors, and circuit breakers).

· Working knowledge of Rockwell Automation software tools used for device parameterization, communication configuration, and network diagnostics.

· Solid technical grounding in electrical protection philosophies, motor starting circuits, and CT/PT sizing calculations.

· Proficiency in reading and updating electrical drawings using CAD tools (AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN).
